The amazing X-29 is in store

The X-29 was designed by Grumman, with 2 examples being built by NASA in order to test forward swept wing technology, canard control surfaces, and fly-by-wire amongst other novel technologies. The first of the two aircraft built began flying in 1984 and they continued caring out flight tests until 1991.

The X-29 was designed to be inherently unstable as instability equals manoeuvrability. For or our model version we have taken away some of the destabilising factors. Our model features elevons to control pitch and roll, with a fixed canard (technically a forward wing now it doesn't move), giving a less unstable platform. The adventurous among you may turn the canard into an all flying surface with the help of a flight computer. There is also no rudder as this has strange roll effects due to the forward swept wing.

The model has a fixed, steerable landing gear for rolling launches from a paved surface.

For our 3D printed model plane version of this unusual aircraft we recommend a print bed size of at least 210mm/210mm/200mm (contact us if you would like the model sectioned for a smaller print size.)

THE MODEL IS DESIGNED TO BE PRINTED IN LW-PLA or other low density foaming filament.
